Arthur's Seat - Exploring Place A five month artist's residency followed by a touring exhibition and a publication distributed for free. The residency was the first ever to take place on this national landmark - the 'mountain in the city' and was preceded by an intensive period of research with field experts including geologists, botanists, archaeologists, ecologists and local people. Working closely with the Holyrood Park Rangers service, the project included workshops with the public and local groups and weekly on-site open studio sessions. The exhibition included work by artists, non-professional and professional. Most of these people live in Edinburgh and much of the work was produced specifically for this project. The exhibition in Edinburgh included 3 venues: Museum of Edinburgh, Holyrood Park Rangers Centre, New Street Exhibition Space in order to reach as wide an audience as possible. It included film, poetry, night time projections, terracotta, drawing, painting, photography, objects and Arthur' Seat elderberry wine. Part of the exhibition was purchased for permanent display by Historic Scotland in their Education Centre at Holyrood Park. This project was funded by Scottish Natural Heritage, Millennium Commission and Historic Scotland. |
